Panthersgrab a dramatic overtime victory in the battle of the SCAC tops teams

A guest post by BSC Senior Kenan Le Parc.

What a sensational game this was! The BSC Men’s basketball team managed to come back to ensure the overtime win against Colorado College. The game did not start off so well for the Panthers who were quickly led 0-8 after 4 minutes into the game. Colorado College’s lead even rose to 12 points in the first half (13:58 on the clock). At the end of the first period, the score was 36-27 for the visiting team. However, a pumped BSC team came back to the court for the second period. Junior Jasen Jonus led his team as he scored 16 points in the second half. Jonus managed to remain calm when he was sent to the line for three free throws with 19 seconds left in the game at the score of 73-70. Jonus successfully shot his three attempts and tied the game. In overtime the Panthers quickly took the lead and outscored their opponents 20-7. The final score 93-80, allows BSC to rise to 12-1 (6-1 SCAC). This victory also allows BSC to have their 25th win in a row at the Bill Battle Coliseum. The Tigers lose their first conference game and fall to 10-6 (6-1 in the SCAC).

The Panthers were led by Jasen Jonus with a 26 points career high. Sophomore Kevin Kegarise also recorded a career high with 19 points. Sophomore Blaise White also recorded 19 points on the game. Junior Zac Richards scored another 16 points, which also ties his career high. White also led the Panthers in rebounds (7) and assists (4).

For Colorado College, Nick Rose led his team with 25 points scored, followed by Ryan Milne (15) and Ben Foley(13). Brady Ohlsen led the Tigers in rebounds with 11.

BSC shot an impressive 56.0 percent (28-of-50) from the field, 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from three-point range, and 75.8 percent (25-of-33) at the free throw line. The Tigers recorded 44.8 percent (30-67) from the field, 39.1 percent (9-23) from three-point range and 78.6 percent (11-14) at the line.

BSC out-rebounded Colorado College with 38 rebounds against the Tiger’s 27. On the other hand, BSC committed more turnovers than Colorado College with 18 against the Tigers’ 13.

BSC’s next game will be on the road as they face Millsaps on the 21st and Hendrix on the 23rd. Southern next home games will be the following weekend as BSC take on Southwestern (Jan. 28th, 8pm) and Trinity (Jan. 29th, 8pm).
